Lot Essay

William Prinsep was part of a large family of artists who worked in India. He was the fifth son of John Prinsep, and worked for the House of Palmer and Co., a firm of bankers and merchants. Prinsep was taught by George Chinnery and painted landscapes, figures and the architecture of Calcutta.
