JOHN STUART MILL (1806-73)
A 4-page autograph letter, signed, from Saint Meran, Angues, Jan. 21. 1862, to his publisher, stating: "The printer is not sending two sheets daily of the Logic, but quite as often only one. This however I do not much mind, if I am able to see proofs of every part of both works which contains any manuscript insertions exceeding a sentence or so. I have now seen the two longest and most important portions of the new matter. But there are several other portions remaining, especially near the beginning and middle of Book V. of the Political Economy. All such I should much wish to see. Monday the 27th is the latest day on which there is any use in reading proofs as if sent later they would not arrive here till after the 29th. The yearly account is very satisfactory, especially as regards the Logic. I agree to the terms you propose for the new edition of the Political Economy, I suppose the number of copies will be 1250 as before, many thanks for allowing so many free copies of the Representative Government. I have sent an article of the American question to Mr. Proude(?) which he has accepted for the forthcoming number of Fraser. I should be glad if you would have a dozen separate copies of it struck off, and send five of them by the earliest opportunity to the following persons" (slightly creased on folds).
