ARTHUR WING PINERO (1855-1934)
A 2-page letter with 2 integral blanks from 14 Hanover Square, W., 20th April 1902, to Bertie Sullivan, asking: "Do like a good chap, give me a bit of advice. I have to describe, to the lay intelligence, a bucket-shop keeper; and I have done it hastily and ignorantly in the words scribbled on the enclosed paper. Will you kindly correct my technical errors ...? Where does the expression 'bucket-shop' come from?" (without the enclosure); another 2-page letter to "my dear Bertie," dated 22nd Dec. 190(?)2, thanking him "for the oysters" and remarking: "'The Oyster Club' is not a bad idea" for (?) the title of a play, "if we are to have food in the title at all ... it wouldn't do for us to get ourselves gibed at and called the Goose Club or something rude of that sort!"
