Mughal India, circa 1700
Of curved tapering form, one end terminating in the head of a fish, a dark inclusion enhancing the appearance of the scales of its underbelly, inset red eyes, the remainder carved with poppy sprays, the cover decorated by a four-petalled flower-head surrounded by leaves and vines, the chain probably a later addition, one repaired break

Lot Essay

Two similar jade powder flasks are in the National Palace Museum of Taipei, published in the Catalogue of a Special Exhibition of Hindustan Jade in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1983, nos. 69 and 70.
