Lot Essay

The sitter, Anne, the daughter of Samuel Rodbard Esq. of Evercreech, Somerset married on 19 April 1781, John Blackburne Esq., M.P. for Lancashire. Sittings are recorded in the artist's pocket book for 1787 and 1788 when the artist also painted a companion portrait of Anne's husband (op. cit., p. 13).
