Fouqueray was a student at the Beaux Arts in Paris under Cabanel and Cormon and began showing at the Salon in 1890. Many of his best works were conducted on his travels to the colonies. He illustrated the works of Kipling amongst others. The events of the first war influenced his work, which was increasingly painted in a more vibrant style. He was made Officier de la Légion d'Honneur and was awarded le prix Rosa Bonheur in 1909 as well as a gold medal for printing in 1920. One panel of his is exhibited at the Museum of War in Versailles.
