Lot Essay

Born in Odessa, Altmann came to Paris around 1909 and knew the principal artists of the time. In 1914 he fought in the war with Chagall, regaining Moscow. Here they refound Kandinsky who was on the side of the Germans at the time. Altmann showed at the Salon des Indépendants, at the Tuileries and the Salon d'Autumne (1911-1922),and was best known for his landscapes.
