Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt (sides scuffed, lower corners bumped). Provenance: Niccolo Messina (early 19th century presentation inscription from Doctor Sofio, on front free endpaper).
A FINE COPY of this Italian atlas of America. European interest in the events in North America focused attention on the continent during this period. In Italy particularly, a number of atlases and maps were issued to satisfy local interest in the region. The maps were taken from Il Gazzettiere Americano (Livorno: M. Cotellini, 1763), the text of which is a translation of the American Gazetteer (London: 1762). Phillips 1167.
