Lot Essay

A pair of Napoleon III ormolu-mounted grey-granite vases, stamped twice HD by Henri Dasson, were sold at Christie's, Rockefeller Plaza, lot 180, 28 October 2003.
Henri Dasson (1825-1896) established his business at 106, Rue Vieille-du-Temple, Paris. He specialized in copies of Louis XIV, XV and XVI furniture, but he also manipulated 18th century designs to his own taste. He exhibited pieces at the Expositions Universelles in 1878 and 1889.
