"An important vintage in several respects but first and foremost because it was the first vintage following Margaux's purchase by André Mentzelopoulos. First tasted the '78 in April 1979. Even then soft and supple, but it was a Merlot 'ensemble' before the final assemblage...More recently, at further verticals, less deep, more mature; fully developed bouquet, nice texture but tannic and showing its age (Hollywood Wine Society 1995) and lastly at Manfred Wagner's Ch Margaux tastings. Very consistent notes, quite good nose, a sort of static fragrance. Some sweetness, medium-full body and a tingle of end-acidity. The last notes made in Jan 1997 and Nov 2000". MB, Vintage Wine
