My first taste of any Premier Cru was the '67 Haut Brion, served at the end of what is known in LA trade as a "Mozy Train". Mozy, to this day is still an importer of fine wine based in Los Angeles. His trade only tastings were often sit-down dinner events with upwards of 40 stems placed in front of you. Barely enough room left to take notes! At the end of the "train" came a bon bouche, this night he pulled from his cellar the '67 Haut Brion. Fully mature, feminine, sweet tobacco and cedar flavors. Silky and long. Truly a mind opener. Years later, most recently, it was served blindly at dinner after a Christie's tasting. Purchased off the restaurant's list, our generous benefactor thought he had something on a Christie's Specialists. I nailed it much to his chagrin. This this wine is unforgetable, for me at least, it maintains all that a mature Haut Brion is reputed to be, tobacco/cedar scented, graceful texture, gentle power, a wine of certain breeding. ST
