CHÂTEAU PICHON-LONGUEVILLE, LALANDE
1966: "One of my favorite vintages which I have always described as a 'lean, long distance runner.' Growing conditions: early flowering, cool and fairly dry summer but a hot, sunny, ripening September, with the harvest starting in good conditions on 6 October...Hardly surprising, at well over 35 years old, many of the minor wines are well past their best and not the kind that remain long on the shelves or in the cellars." MB, Vintage Wine
Château Pichon-Longueville, Lalande--Vintage 1966
Pauillac, 2me cru classé
Lots 66 and 67 levels: bottom neck. Lots 68 and 69 levels: very top shoulder
All lots in original wooden cases, under tissue prior to inspection
Parcel: lots 66-67 and 68-69
One example, tasted at Jim Knight's birthday dinner Feb 2003 amongst friends, from an upper/mid shoulder bottle: mature nose as expected. Color fading garnet center to red/orange brick rim. Sweet aromas pleasing enough, time needed to blow off a touch of mustiness. Silky, mature texture with remnants of that famed '66 tannic grip on the finish. Favors will be attractive to those appreciating mature bordeaux. Given this particular bottle's condition, time to drink up. This bottle decanted or 2.5 hours prior to service. ST
