1961: "The wines have always been prized for their sensational concentration and magnificent penetrating bouquets of super-ripe fruit and rich, deep, sumptuous flavors." Robert Parker

Château Léoville-Las-Cases--Vintage 1961
Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé
Levels: two very top, six top and two upper/top shoulder; four bin soiled labels
"Followed for nearly four decades, and all pretty impressive, the exception being curiously variable bottles at Dr Taam's seminal 1961 horizontal in 1978, and a 'gnarled oak', mellow but tannic bottle at a New York Wine Society's 'exponential' tasting (1998). Most recently, two superlative bottles, one at the Irish Club in London in 1999, the other dinning in Pfaffikon, near Zurich, after Wagner's Margaux vertical. Last noted Nov 2000. At best *****" MB, Vintage Wine
