Tasting note from a representative bottle from this cellar: Fantastic aromatics! Cedar, sweet tobacco, minerals and iron. A very healthy deep garnet color. The success of the vintage is very evident in its powerfully driven Cabernet Sauvignon personality, both in texture and taste. The passing of time however is recognizable in its bouquet: evolved black plum and currant like fruit, there is cedar and tobacco too. Amazingly fresh for a nearly 4 decade old wine. A sedimentary life of quiet, cool storage has preserved this wine enough to still note youthful characteristics. There is a complex nose of great volume and consistency, it gains a louder voice with aeration...this bottle was opened, left in bottle during lunch at 12.30pm and finished with dinner at 9.00pm! We had the great pleasure of tasting it against the 1961 La Mission Haut Brion and in this comparison the finesse qualities inherent in the wines of St. Julien become truely evident. Tremendous finish. Drink now, will keep for the near term. ST
