A superb half-bottle at dinner last November 2004 in NY. Encouragingly, a healthy color right to the core, slight wateryness at the rim. Very complex, fabulous aromas. More fruit than a California Farmer's Market - gobs of fruit! Pure opulence. All this and yet, mature - properly so. Aromas of cedar, a whiff of tobacco, graphite/pencil lead shavings. Very lovely and complex. Excellent weight/body, with a stout structure indicative of that great vintage. Sweet tannins turn silky within 30 minutes. What a vintage! Forty three years ago Yuri Gagarin goes into space and tonight Pape Clément takes me to heaven! It was so good we just had to share it with strangers sitting next to us. ST
