Vintage 1971
A relatively small but good quality, very high priced vintage. Coming at the top of the overheated market, it was overrated by the Bordelais and has been underrrated by the British. Many Wines have turned out far better than the '70s. The weather conditons appeared to favour producers on the Right Bank, especially Pomerol, and in the Graves. Some top growth Médoc have turned our poorly, yet they were the most expensive of the period.

"This is a sensational Pétrus that has drunk well since the mid-1970s. Plum/garnet in color with noticeable orange at the rim, the chocolate, mocha, sweet, fruit-scented bouquet is followed by a rich, velvety, full-bodied wine with layers of silky fruit. The 1971 must surely be the wine of the vintage. Light to moderate tannins and high alcohol will continue to preserve this plump, unctuous wine for another decade. This is Pétrus at its most seductive. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005." Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition
