1959 Vintage

This classic vintage displays all the complexity and depth of a star Burgundy, making it the best vintage since 1949 and unrivaled until 1990. Ideal weather conditions throughout June, July and August prepared for the region for an early 14 September harvest. The wines strike the perfect balance between fullness and acidity, as well as exhibiting grip and a ripe fruit fragrance. Overall, an extremely well structured, elegant and rich vintage.

Bonnes-Mares--Vintage 1959
Côte de Nuits, Ponelle
Levels: three 3.5cm; bin soiled labels
Tasting note from a representative bottle from this cellar: Garnet with brick red/orange rim. Aromatic complexity upon initial pour started out smokey leaning towards an appealing "jerky", dried meat aroma. In time weight is gained, intensity grows. The evolution is something more savory and dried tobacco-leaf like. Clarity and definition come about after 9 hours aeration in bottle! Delicious complexity. Excellent silky texture with fine tannins, this wine is mature, yet its acidity keeps the wine fresh to the palate. There is a deft balance between the feminity that maturity confers upon great burgundy and the masculinity that is inherent in its terroir. 2.5cm ullage. ST
