BEAUNE, CLOS DU ROI, LIGER BELAIR 1947: This was a recorked bottle (at the factory) that I've tasted several times before. It never was this great. It was always a little small, typically Beaunue, but that night it was a giant. Very young berries stood out on the nose. The attack on the tongue was huge and very powerful with fruit and not quite resolved tannins. If the vintage is genuine, I suspect that they used a very young wine to top off the bottle. The dark colour of the robe indicated late fifties to early sixties. The finish, like the taste, was huge and interminable, promising a real champion when the tannins resolve. Unquestionably the best wine at the table but not the most enjoyable. I just couldn't score it less than 20 though! Lee Kramer, March 31, 1987
