Purple, tannic, great potential noted in 1979 and 1981, but within 10 years it had lost quite a bit of colour, still rich but mature. A rather malty-medicinal bottle in 1989, and an unfortunately oxidised bottle in New York May 1999. Happily two bottles brought by Beaulieu Vineyard to their 'Centenary tasting' two months later earned high marks, particularly on the palate: very sweet, full of fruit, perfect flavour and weight. Putting paid to the frequently asked question. Will the'74 Cabs Last?' The answer is, if well kept, yes. Last tasted at Vinopolis, London, July 1999 ****, on the fringe of 5 star. But I suggest drinking it soon. MB Vintage Wine.
