Lot Essay

Mary, youngest daughter and co-heir of 4th Earl of Elgin and 3rd Earl of Ailesbury, married Charles, 3rd Duke of Richmond (1734/35-1806) on 1 April 1757. He was succeeded by his nephew, Charles. This miniature is after the painting by Angelica Kaufmann of 1775 at Goodwood House.
