Lot Essay

The overall form of these cabinets, formerly in the so-called family room at Schloss Karlsruhe, closely imitates the contemporary French style of the early Napoleon III period. With the use of pine instead of the more normal oak, the back panels of each cabinet suggest that they were made in Germany, possibly even locally to Baden-Baden, following a French pattern.
