The inscription is from one of two places in the Qur'an, either surat al-fussilat (XLI), parts of v.30 or surat al-ahqaq (XLVI), parts of v.13. Either reference indicates that the tile must come from a funerary building.

Five tiles from the same inscription are in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (Mikhail B. Piotrovsky and John Vrieze, Earthly Beauty, Heavenly Art, exhibition catalogue, Amsterdam, 2000, no.191, p.218).
