Lot Essay

A number of vessels are known which use the blue and black floral design found on this pouring vessel. They seem particularly to have been used, possibly by the same workshop, on works of unusual shape. Thus in addition to the present bowl we find jugs, lemon-squeezers, basins with pierced centres and even a travelling pencase (Adalbert Klein, Johanna Zick-Nissen and Ekkart Klinge, Islamische Keramik, exhibition catalogue, Düsseldorf, 1973, nos.456-459, pp.296-7).
