A LARGE SAFAVID TINNED COPPER BOWL
IRAN, LATE 16TH CENTURY
Of rounded form with flaring T-section rim, the exterior engraved with a band of cusped oval panels containing interlaced arabesques alternating with demilune panels containing cloudbands alternating with paired confronted animals, a broad band around the mouth with rectangular naskh inscription panels divided by arabesque roundels, one roundel with inscription, later owners' inscriptions on the body, slightly rubbed, generally good condition

Lot Essay

The inscriptions contain a call to God to bless the Fourteen Innocents. Later owners' names are given as Rajab'Ali b. Husayn and Khanum Agha bint Hajji ?Sihhat.
