The Persian qasida is in praise of the frame, which holds the portrait of the king (unidentified), with allusions to shell and pearl, casket and jewels.

Muhammad Husayn Shirazi (1883-1952) was from a family of khatam makers. He was among the craftsmen responsible for the Khatam Hall at the Marble Palace in Tehran which was built by Reza Shah. The other workers there included his father Muhammad Kazim and brother Haji Muhammad. (M.A. Karimzadeh Tabrizi, The Lives & Art of Old Painters of Iran, vol., 2, London, 1990, footnote on p. 706).
