Lot Essay
The present lot is made under the influence of the French taste in Holland in the 18th century. French ormolu cartel, mantel and bracket clocks were highly prized and much sought after during this period. Because ormolu was rarely produced in Holland Dutch clockmakers and craftsmen made painted and gilt-wood imitations according to the admiration and demand of clocks in the fashionable French style.
