After a Chinese Transitional prototype, the globular body painted with a continuous scene depicting figures in a landscape with pine-trees and rocks, below a keyfret and karakusa border, the flaring neck with upright tulip stems divided by jewels, the C-shaped handle with karakusa scroll, the silver cover with shell-shaped thumb-piece and foliate mount applied in relief with a lizard, some cracks and chips

The silver covers that are dated 1658, reveal that these ewers must have been one of the first Japanese Arita Export pieces after a European shape and Chinese style of decoration.
