Lot Essay
Large quantities of white glazed bottles were imported from Japan during the late 17th Century and then enamelled in Delft. Due to lack of documentation, it is difficult to date the overdecoration, but the style points out to the early 18th Century. For similar apothecary bottles, see O. Impey, Japanese Export Porcelain, 2002, pp. 180-181, nrs. 281-283; and C.J.A. Jörg, Fine and Curious, Japanese Export Porcelain in Dutch Collections, Amsterdam, 2003, pp. 222-223, nrs. 279-280.
