Accompanied by Omega Missions display suitcase covered with space suit cloth, with alien-form latches and apertures in the lid revealing two of the "Missions" watches and the 1957 replica, instructions, certificate, photographs of the watches with various space backgrounds and a booklet on the 22 highlighted missions.
In 1997, Omega celebrated both the 150th anniversary of the company and also the 40th anniversary of the production of the "Speedmaster" model by releasing the "Speedmaster Missions" collection.
The present collection represents number 23 in a limited edition of 40 sets produced for commercial sale including all 22 of the "Missions" wristwatches. In total, Omega manufactured 50 of these sets, including 10 for non-commercial use with 5 sets for "Out-of-Business" and 5 "Artist's Proof" examples.
By 1978 the "Speedmaster" had become part of standard issue for astronauts and cosmonauts during their time in space. This model was their for such important missions as Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon as well as its instrumental use in the timing of reentry for the almost disastrous Apollo 13 flight. The present collection features emblems of famed space mission from 1965 until 1973. The "Speedmaster" wristwatch remains to this day an important timekeeper for NASA and also was tested aboard the Russian space station MIR during the early 1990's.
