Please note that Mary Cornwallis married the Leutenant General, the honourable Edward Cornwallis (1713-1776), governor of Gibralter in 1753. It is believed to have been sold in the Culford collection of 1824.
Lot Essay
Mary Townshend, the daughter of 2nd Viscount Townshend, was the sister-in-law of General Cornwallis and not as stated in the inscription.
