The interesting form of this mirror displays the emerging neo-classical taste developing in the third quarter of the 18th Century. Whilst the mirror shares the general outline of earlier George II mirrors the inclusion of the urn cresting and some beaded divides point to a slightly later date. The form is certainly related to a drawing by John Linnell for a mirror frame dated 1773 which includes the arched cresting, divided plates and urn finial along with acanthus scrolls to the lower corners. The drawing, the original of which is held in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, is reproduced in H. Hayward, 'The Drawings of John Linnell in The Victoria and Albert Museum', Furniture History, 1969, fig. 89.
