HORATIO, VISCOUNT NELSON (1758-1805)
Autograph letter signed ('Nelson & Bronte') to H.S. Blankley, Victory, 4 August 1804, one page, 4to, integral blank (docketed by the recipient, slightly browned, traces of mount).
Nelson has received Blankley's letter via Barcelona: 'although I do not think that any Russian fleet will come into this part of the Medi[terranea]n Yet you may be assured that if it should and that I can be useful to you that I will mention you to the Russian admiral'. A reference to Mr and Mrs Matcham (Nelson's sister, Catherine, and her husband) suggest that Blankley was an acquaintance of theirs.
