Document signed, 'ORDER OF BATTLE', Hibernia off Ushant, 15 June 1805, this copy to William, 7th Earl of Northesk, disposing 36 ships in three squadrons, the identifying flags in watercolour, one ship added in pencil, countersigned by James Kennedy, one page, 430 x 270mm, framed and glazed.
Lord Gardner was commander of the Irish station from 1800 to 1805. At the time of these orders his fleet included a number of ships destined to take part in the battle of Trafalgar four months later, including Britannia, Defiance, Temeraire, Ajax and Agamemnon.
