Cuthbert, 1st Baron COLLINGWOOD. Autograph letter signed to his sister, Barfleur off Brest, 23 July 1800, a gossipy letter, complaining of life on blockade, 'there is such a sameness in this life that nothing but habit established in youth cou[l]d reconcile any body to it', and reporting that 'Lord Nelson is coming home ... the King of Naples has been heaping honours on him', four pages, 4to;
Sir George WESTHALL. Autograph letter signed, 11 April 1855, describing his wounds at Trafalgar, 'Ld Nelson's coat [was] placed under my head [as a pillow]', and describing how the blood from his head-wound had stuck three of the bullions from the epaulette to his head, 2½ pages, 8vo;
and documents with the signature of Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, Bart (captain of the Victory), Sir William Beatty (surgeon on the Victory), Sir Henry Blackwood, 1st Bart (captain of the Euryalus), Sir Edward Berry, Bart (captain of the Agamemnon), Sir Henry Bayntun (captain of the Leviathan), Sir Edward Codrington (captain of the Orion), Sir Philip Durham (captain of the Defiance), Sir Richard King, 2nd Bart (captain of the Achille), Sir George Sartorius (midshipman on the Tonnant), Sir Richard Strachan, 4th Bart (who commanded the detached squadron which on 4 November 1805 off Cape Finisterre captured the four French ships of the line which had escaped from Trafalgar), Sir Robert Calder, Bart (sent home immediately before Trafalgar to a court martial after his indecisive engagement of 22 July 1805 with the French fleet), William Cheselden Brown (who commanded the Ajax under Calder on 22 July 1805), and Sir John Louis, 2nd Bart (son of Sir Thomas Louis).
