HORATIO, VISCOUNT NELSON (1758-1805)
A Victory Day card announcing the battle of Trafalgar ('The LORD wrought a Great Victory that Day') and Nelson's funeral ('[His] Remains are to be deposited under the Dome of St Paul's Cathedral, Jan[uary] 9th, 1806'), on an ivory card with decorative border in black, inscribed for 'Mr Perez' and numbered '2', by Neale and Bailey, 117 x 153 mm; together with a printed ticket for the funeral of the Duke of Wellington in St Paul's Cathedral [18 November 1852], inscribed for 'Mr Archibald', admitting him to the South Side of the West Gallery, signed by the Dean (Henry Hart Milman), on an ivory card with decorative border in black, 117 x 175mm.
Nelson's funeral was one of the last full heraldic funerals to be staged in Britain and all the arrangements were in the hands of Sir Isaac Heard, Garter King of Arms, and the College of Heralds.
