The barque Evening Star, 786 tons net, was built by Edward Allen at St. Aubin, Jersey, in 1854. Intended for the Australian wool run, she was owned first by J. Le Bas of Jersey (1854-58), then T. Redway of Exmouth and, by 1869, F. Ferguson of St. John, New Brunswick, who ran her between London and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. By 1873, she had passed into the ownership of Trayes of Cardiff who were still operating her when she was wrecked in 1876.
Despite an exhaustive search through Lloyd's Registers, 1868 to 1890, no trace of a full-rigged ship named Beacon Light has been found.
