ARTHUR WELLESLEY, DUKE OF WELLINGTON (1769-1852)
A collection of c.160 vols on Wellington, including; Rev. George Newenham Wright (1794/5-1877). Life and Campaigns of the Duke of Wellington. London: Fisher Son & Co., [1841]. 10 original divisions, 8° (234 x 148mm). Engraved plates and title vignettes (occasional light spotting). Original cloth gilt (spines rather worn).
Rev. George Wright was a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin and later a master of Tewkesbury grammar school. He wrote profusely on subjects varying from biography and philosophy to topography and Greek grammar. This life of Wellington was later translated into German.
together with a large quantity of biographies of the Duke of Wellington, most 20th-century bound in cloth, including Elizabeth Longford's Wellington: The Years of the Sword (London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1969) and Wellington: Pillar of State (London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1972, 2 copies) and Philip Guedalla's The Duke (London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1937) together with various pamphlets of related interest and a quantity of souvenir postcards of the battlefield of Waterloo.
