QUR'AN, SAFAVID IRAN, SECOND HALF 17TH CENTURY, RESTORED IN MASHHAD IN AH 1298/1881 AD
Manuscript on cream paper, 565ff. with 9ll. of black naskh within gold rules, gold roundels between verses, sura headings in blue on gold panels, red Persian interlinear translation, other verse divisions marked in the margins, opening illuminated bifolium, preceded by illuminated bifolium with table of suwar, two final folios with extensive colophon recording the date of completion of the restoration of the Qur'an on 1 Ramadan AH1298 and the name of the scribe, generally good condition, very fine red lacquer binding with gold floral meander and medallion with inscription of a devotional nature -- Folio 11 3/8 x 7 1/8in. (28.8 x 18cm.)
