Lot Essay

In 1718, S. Simeon Piccolo was redesigned by the architect Giovanni Scalfarotto (1690-1764). It was his intention to imitate the Parthenon in Rome with its distinctive large green dome surmounted by a statue of Christ the Redeemer. Framing the entrance is an 18th Century neo-classical portico with Corinthian columns. Today, the building is used as an auditorium for musical recitals.
