A Northeast Indian, Pala style, phyllite stone stele with the crowned Buddha
10th/11th century
Buddha is seated in pralambapadasana on a throne with both feet resting on a lotus and with the Wheel of Life flanked by a pair of deer below, both hands in dharmacakramudra, wearing pleated cloak, modern head, flanked by Maitreya and Padmapani, a pair of stupas above and a parasol at the centre of the arched backslab, below a lengthy inscription, including the Buddhist Creed, in a fine nagari script
