Circa 1773, green interlaced L's mark, painter's mark for de Laroche at the left, incised Hdd
The center with the crowned monogram CL in pink roses and cornflowers, the border with putti in clouds, reserved within gilt ciselé bands alternate with baskets of flowers, the shaped gilt line rim with further blue enamel band gilt with laurel, edged with gilt foliate scrolls and suspending berried laurel wreaths between the panels of putti and the baskets of flowers

Lot Essay

The present plate is from a small service given by Louis XV to Queen Marie-Caroline of Naples and the Two Sicilies upon the birth of her daughter, Charlotte-Louise, for whom the king stood as godfather. Examples from this service are in the collection of the Louvre and the museé des arts décoratifs, Paris. Cf. Versailles et les table royals en Europe, XVIIème-XIXème siècles, exhibition catalogue, museé national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon, Paris, 1993, p. 338 ; also The Pompey Collection ; Christie's New York, 23 May 2003, lot 48.
