Circa 1770, blue interlaced L's and painter's mark for Fontaine
Of canted arched rectangular form, the sloping shoulder gilt with foliate scrolls and diaper-pattern cartouches issuing sprays of flowers, the long sides painted in colors after François Boucher's 'The Flute Lesson' and with a peasant girl and child, the short sides with emblems of Love, the cover a restored replacement

Edward P. Lygon; Christie's, London, 25-29 April 1864, lot 382 (described as "an octagonal canister with cover of pate-dure, gros-bleu, penciled with gold and painted exquisitely with a shepherd and shepherdess with sheep, peasant girl and two pastoral trophies in medallions", to Henry G. Bohn).
Henry G. Bohn; Christie's, London, 19-22 March 1877, lot 402 (described as "another small canister and cover [pate dure] gros-bleu and gold, painted with four medallions of rural subjects", to Jacobs, probably a dealer, whose name appears also as a purchaser in the Shandon sale of 1877 and the Donegall sale of 1884).
