Gevrey-Chambertin, En Pallud--Vintage 1990
Côte de Nuits, Maume
"All of his 1990 offerings are typical of Maume's style of winemaking. They are darkly-colored, powerful, dense, and backward. Most of them will require 7-10 years of cellaring. Consider Maume's 1982s, a vintage when most red burgundies are in complete decline. His wines are just beginning to reach full maturity. It is hard to pick a favorite from among the four premiers crus in Gevrey-Chambertin, as they are all extremely tannic, tough-textured, super-concentrated, and powerful. The Gevrey-Chambertin-En Palud appears to have the sweetest fruit, the Champeaux the most tannins, and the Lavaux St.-Jacques the most balance and length, as well as the potential to achieve an outstanding rating in 5-7 years. None of these wines should be drunk before the late nineties. All of them should last for 10-15 years into the next century." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #83 (Oct 1992)
