NEWTON'S New & Improved TERRESTRIAL GLOBE Published by Newton, Son & Berry 66 Chancery Lane LONDON made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, with graduated equatorial, ecliptic and meridian at 30°W, the oceans showing the tracks of Cook, Clerke, Gore and Biscoe, the Antarctic with short stretches of coastline shown, the continents with national boundaries shown in red, yellow, orange and green, showing cities, rivers, mountains, deserts and the Chinese wall, with an engraved brass hour dial and stamped brass meridian circle, in a spherical fishkin-covered wooden case, one side painted black on the interior with a wooden meridian support and papered wooden horizon ring jutting inwards and showing degrees of amplitude and azimuth and compass directions, the other side laid with twelve half-gores, graduated around the edge in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, with a star-chart of the ecliptic shown, a central Sun motif and the relative sizes and positions of the planets shown up to Herschel (Uranus) with some satellites, the Milky Way and some named stars, the case with two (of three) brass hooks and eyes
