Lot Essay

Tourmaline is a mineral in its own right but often occurs with quartz. Here it is seen as black needle-like crystals criss-crossing the interior of the sphere. Unusually one of the needles pierces a small blade-like mica crystal near the centre resembling 'cupid's arrow'.
