A rare 19th-Century lacquered and ebonised-brass compound monocular microscope,
the annular foot moulded with UNIVERSAL MICROSCOPE R & J BECK LONDON and with an engraved plaque numebred 4757, the square section barrel on a shaped limb with chain-driven focusing and swinging lateral movement with screw clamp, the focusing knob with a loose oxidised-brass handle, the stage with threaded live box, articulated bull's-eye condensor, swinging aperture disc and concave mirror, with one eyepeice and one objective, in a mahogany case with brass handle -- 31.5cm. (12 3/8in.) high
