Yoakley Lodge
a painted wood dolls' house of classical style of three bays and three storeys with central pediment painted 'A.D. 1852 YOAKLEY LODGE' and front door with side windows, carrying handles, opening at the front to reveal six rooms, staircase, landings, back windows on the stairs, chimney breasts, fireplaces and interior doors with bone handles, the kitchen with Evans and Cartwright tinplate range, shelving and plate rack, furniture including Waltershausen - tapestry frame, glazed bookcase, bonheur du jour, work table and sofa upholstered in gold printed red leather; Evans and Cartwright - sofa, side table and dressing mirror; a Rock and Graner button back arm chair; copper kitchen items; a bird cage; turned wood pieces, feather stool and eight bisque-headed dolls, mid 19th century --48½in. (123.5cm.) wide x 42¾in. (108.5cm.) high x 20¾in. (52.5cm.) deep (repapared and extensivly restored, furniture some minor damages and restoration)
Provenance
Made for Emma Jenkins Bennet in 1852 for her 7th birthday by the carpenter of her adopted uncle Richard Jenks. The name Yoakley Lode comes from the alms houses next to Emma's home, which were built by the Draper Company when a Michael Yoakley was Master.
