'General Gordon of Khartoum', a carved and painted toy cloth-covered horse
with red painted, bridle, collar, farthingale and saddle over green blanket, Gordoon of carved and painted wood with red tasselled fez, blue jacket and cream jodhpurs, probably Rajastan --15in. (38cm.) long; a G & J Lines horse on wheeled platform with original mane, tail and saddle --21in. (53cm.) long; a Forest Toys of Brockenhurst grey horse --9in. (23cm.) long; a skin-covered horse on wheeled stand with cart --the horse 6½in. (16.5cm.) long and a wood toy stable with horses, hay rack, card, stalls and gate --11in. (28cm.) wide
Provenance
General Gordon and his horse were made in Indian for the son of the Scottish Chief Engineer on the Bengal & N.W. Railway.
