Lot Essay

Born in Edinburgh, Wilson served an apprenticeships with James Ballantine, the Edinburgh stained-glass maker, opening his own glass studio in 1937. His style, both in glass and watercolour moved towards a free Expressionist manner, influenced by the work of Gillies. His watercolours, based on ink construction, often feature architectural items such as old buildings and churches.
