Lot Essay

Baird was born in Montrose and studied at the Glasgow School of Art 1923-27. Ill-health kept him out of the public eye and his work was virtually unknown until an exhibition at the Scottish Arts Council in 1968. Yellow Tulips in a Glasgow Jug with Pears and Apples, 1940 is in the collection of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
